BUILD YOUR WINNING TEAM

As an entrepreneurial leader, we not only need to clearly express the concept and purpose of the organization, but also to fill the positions in our company with people having superior skills. We must, in short, fill jobs with top talent, not just the warmest available body. Good organizations never lower their standards to fill a position. You’ll pay for it later if you do. Spend time looking for winners, and we’ll win right along with them. There is no greater value a leader can provide to the organization than to build a winning team with proven performers.

Building a great team requires three critical areas namely Attitude, Approach and Action. If the attitude is off, you lose. If the attitude is right, but the approach is off, you lose. It the attitude and the approach is right, but you don't take any or enough action you lose. Attitude, Approach and Action are the success trifecta. Each one holds the other in balance and in check. Pyramids have stability for a reason. Three sides are strong.

The challenge for the sales manager is how do you build a team that can consistently operate with the right attitude? How do you build a team of players that can all be on the same page and have the same approach? How do you train them to take the right level of action? So select people with right attitude, right approach and action.

Choose the Right Team Players

* They should be self-motivated – It's important to choose team members who have above-average self-motivation and like to work independently, rather than those who need constant encouragement and attention to get the job done.

* They need good communication skills – There may be limited, or no, face-to-face contact, so workers should have strong communication skills.

* They must be results-driven – You...
