Chapter 1 Assignment

1. What is information systems analysis and design?

Information system analysis and design is the process of developing and maintaining an information system. The main goal of system analysis and design is to improve employee efficiency by applying software solution to key business tasks. There must be a structured approach in order to ensure success.

4. In what way are organizations systems?

Organizations are systems in a way because a system is an interrelated set of business produced used with one business unit, working together for some purpose. Organizations usually have a purse a collective goal. With the different activities of members, and assigned roles to carry out different tasks, organizations are open systems--they affect and are affected by their environment just like systems.

6. List and explain the different phases in the systems development life cycle.

The phases of Systems development life are as follow: Systems planning and selection, Analysis, system Design, and system implementation and operations

Phase 1: Systems Planning and Selection : Systems planning

and selection The first phase of the SDLC in which an organization’s total information system needs are analyzed and arranged, and in which a potential information systems project is identified and an argument for continuing or not continuing with the project

is presented.

Phase 2: Systems analysis Phase of the SDLC in which the current system is studied and alternative replacement systems are proposed.

Phase 3: Systems design Phase of the SDLC in which the system chosen for development in systems analysis is first described independently of any

computer platform (logical design) and is then transformed into technology-specific details(physical design) from which all programming and system construction can be

accomplished.

Phase 4: Systems implementation and operation- Final phase of the SDLC in which the...
