Assignment 3

We would like you to reflect on how the Boston Consulting Matrix can be used as a tool in Strategic Planning.

For this you will need to:

* Read the articles on the BCG by Seeger and Hax/Majluf

* Use the MIN8 assignment in which you have created (are creating) a BCG for CocaCola

In a short report write down:

* A to-the-point summary (max 0,5 page) of the Hax/Majluf article

* A to-the-point summary (max 0,5 page) of the Seeger article

* An analysis (about 1,5 – 2 pages) of the BCG for CocaCola. How does it look? How useful is it? What else would you like to see analyzed before you can actually draw any conclusions?

In your comments, you must apply the views of Seeger and Hax/Majluf (or indeed any other consultant’s view like you may find on one of online resources, such as Google Scolar and the many sources HHS’ online library, as you would do for your IP8 too)

As already mentioned, this is an assignment that is not easily done in teams. And certainly not on a ‘my part – your part basis’.

Also, for some classes the time will be too short for teams to meet, reach consensus and then turn it into a team report in time for their Wednesday or Thursday workshop.

We therefore advise you to do this assignment initially on an INDIVIDUAL basis. Although it is always useful – and allowed - to ask team members or class mates.

Exceptionally, you will have to upload this assignment INDIVIDUALLY (Dropbox 3 of your class) and of course add it to your paper portfolio.

We will ask two or three students to present their finding in class in the pertaining workshop.
