Of course they are. Everybody knows that. So what am I harping about. Lets imagine that we have two persons, one male and the other female, who are dressed in identical outfits, wears the same hairdos and speaks in the same voice, can you tell them apart? Can you say which is the boy and which the girl? Assuming that their outfits hide their obvious difference anatomically. After countless years (actually 37 and still counting) of classroom work, I have noticed that there are subtle differences brought about by their unconscious mannerism and attitude.

First, there's the attitude towards anything defined as work or chores. These could be ordinary house-keeping chores or school homework. Schools in this part of the world normally have duty rosters put up assigning every students a particular job. It may be to clean up the classrooms, wipe the window panes, clean the white-board (used to be the blackboard - we have moved ahead with the time...it's now the white-board) or empty the rubbish bin. Normally the girls are up and about their tasks first thing before classes starts. The boys on the other hand would try very hard to get away with not doing their chores. When queried, they would put on their most innocent looks, walk over to the duty roster, feign surprise then quickly mutter out, "Oops, thought I was on tomorrow. I'll get it done during the break." But of course they never do. Half the time its the poor girl who will do it. Its the same with school assignment. The boys would wait until the very last minute to get it done, if at all. They always have the most original excuses as well. "I did it on my laptop and my brother has taken it to his meeting." "I left my school bag in the bus and there's no way I can contact the driver." "My kid brother tore out my homework and made a paper aeroplane with it. It's now up on the roof of my house." Girls, they are so conscientious. They'll get everything done and all in good time.
