Developing Good Business Sense

Many people do not take into consideration what makes companies successful. One of the key components to the success of any business is a well designed Operations and Materials Management Process or OMM. The OMM is comprised of three different stages. The first stage is the input stage. This is the part of the process where the company’s management expertise determines how much value the company creates for customers. The second stage is the operations stage. This part of the process is somewhat of the development stage. Are the right people in place to do the job? Does the company have the knowledge to tackle the task? Do they have the right equipment to get the job done? The final phase of the process is the output stage. The company has to not only make the goods and have the right people to do the job, but they also must be able to deliver their product in a way that satisfies their customer base. In the next few paragraphs, the following companies and their Operations and Materials Management Process will be discussed: Wendy’s, SWBC, and GAP.

The first company to be examined is Wendy’s. There are hundreds of fast food chains out there, but what makes Wendy’s stand out from the rest? When visiting Wendy’s website (2013), the reader’s attention is grabbed by the following statement, “At Wendy’s, we’re unrivaled in our passion for giving people what they want – and uncompromised in giving people what they deserve.” Wendy’s also claimed that their beef is fresh and never frozen. For some hamburger connoisseurs that may be very important. The beef Wendy’s uses is part of the input stage of the OMM. The employees hired to work there are trained to offer the best service while very quickly getting the quality product to the customer. Wendy’s restaurants are set up somewhat like an assembly line.
