Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

A library is a resource centre that provides not only required information in the data stored in books but also a conducive silent environment for concentrated studying. Students can also borrow books suitable for their ages without having to go to national libraries and search for them.

The proposed “Arellano University – JAS Campus Library System Using Barcode Scanner” will be more user –friendly because of the user interface and the barcode scanner. The system supports all the transactions in the university’s library including the list of books available, the student information and the borrower’s information or status.

1.2 Objective

1.3.1 General Objective

The General objective of the study is to:

A. To develop a library system that can use a barcode scanner

B. To develop a library system that can display the information needed by the library.

C. To develop a library system that could show the information and status of the borrowers

1.3.2 Specific Objectives

The specific objectives of the system are:

A. To develop a library system that is connected to a database that could be shown to the user of the system, the librarian.

B. To develop a library system that is user – friendly, so that the system can be easily managed by the user.

C. To develop a system that has a form for item management and can be printed.

1.3 Hypothesis
