Alzheimer’s disease is a form of Dementia, which is a loss of brain function. The ADAM Organization is a group of doctors, that have come together to review the medical aspects related to Alzheimer’s disease and provide a website which health information can be provided. People who are older or have genetic ties with a relative with Alzheimer’s have a higher chance of gaining it. There are two kinds of Alzheimer’s disease, early onset, in which symptoms appear before 60 years of age, and late onset, in which symptoms appear after 60. Symptoms include having difficulty with mental functions such as memory, language and perception. CT or MRI scans can help detect anything unusual within the brain. There is no cure for this disease, doctors can only try to control the symptoms and gradually decrease the disease. This article illuminates my topic so that they reader may understand the seriousness of this disease and determine if insurance should cover long-term care of patients with Alzheimer’s. This article was used as a source in order to provide background information.
