Memoir
The most important time in my life would have to be my experience in Australia. In 2010 I flew 21 hours across the world to visit my Aunt in New South Wales, Australia. The time I spent there was absolutely life changing. I spent 3 weeks in the beautiful country and checked out colleges, museums, even different cities in the area. When I finally arrived to the Aus airport on a cool April morning everything around me was so different then home. The walls were colorful and full of pictures and paintings of animals. People were happy and greeted us kindly even though we were tourists. No one seemed lazy or out of shape, and everyone is always outside. My Aunt’s house is surrounded one side by ocean, and the other side by forest. The forest is nothing like it is at home, you walk a couple feet into it and you can see a Kangaroo! The animals there are also nice, so nice that you can put any kind of food in your hand and rainbow colored birds will land right on your arm and eat out of your hand. The lifestyles of Australia are just so different from the US that it’s almost bizarre. Each day I spent there I would do something completely different. I visited the Sydney and watched street acts of people stuffing themselves in a 1’ by 1’ box. Incredible! I went to a Zoo and held baby Koala bears and fed llamas and Kangaroos. After long days of walking around the city we’d walk down the street to the beach and even the sand is different it’s amazing. The sand is pure white and it squeaks when you walk on it. I spent a day by myself and took a train to a town called Wollongong, it was a hippie-like town, and I met up with a woman to put a hair wrap in my hair. The different strings and beads of the hair wrap represented different things and important things in my life.
