Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
The major conflict seen between Palestinians and Jews has been going on since the beginning of the twentieth century. The conflict is not just the result of the differences in religion but the struggle over land. The fighting is over land formerly known as Palestine but since the war that took place through 1948-1949 it has been divided into three separate sections. These parts include the state of Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. During 1948, the Jewish People’s Council gathered and declared the establishment of the state of Israel. The Jewish community feels they have an inherent right to rule the land because of the biblical promise to Abraham and his descendants. The old location of the Jewish Kingdom of Israel, which the Roman Empire destroyed, is located in the same region. The Zionist movement, which started in 1882, is one of the main reasons why there is a large Jewish presence in this region in this current era (Declaration). The Palestinian Arabs claim the land since they have lived there continuously for hundreds of years and they currently represent the demographic majority in the region. The significance of this conflict is that there is no stability or security in this region. Since the Bush Administration in the early 2000’s, there have been many attempts at peace talks. Although there have many setbacks, there has been some progress in resolving this conflict. Achieving peace in this region is a necessity and is only attainable through cooperation from Israeli’s and Palestinian Arabs alike.
In order to decide if this problem can be solved we need to analyze the origins of what fuels the conflict. Outside influence by a few powerful nations has had a huge effect on the region. These outside nations are arguably the reason the conflict began in the first place.
