ChronsCrohns and Colitis.

In 1932 chrons disease was founded by Dr. Burril Crohn, he discovered it to be a part of the condition IBD or irritable bowel disease. Crohns is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Crohns can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract but is most commonly seen in the ileum which is the small part of your bowel. Crohns also affects the thickness of the wall as well as leaving normal healthy areas in the middle of a diseased part of the intestine.

Some of the general symptoms of having crohns would be fever, loss of appetite, weight loss or gain, fatigue, night sweats or chills, and for women possible loss of menstrual period. Anyone can have symptoms but if you think you have a chance of having crohns get checked out because only testing will be able to tell you if you do or not.

Chrons is diagnosed by a barium enema xray of the bowel and a colonoscopy. The cause of crohns is not well- known yet, but can affect any one. Genetics, hereditary, and environmental factors all contribute to the development in this disease. Crohns tends to run in families, so if someone close to you has it you have a greater chance of getting it, unless it’s just colitis than it has a lower chance. It’s important to know that crohns and colitis are different but can have similar symptoms and that crohns affects any part of the gastrointestinal tract and colitis is limited to just the colon.
