A Christmas Carol

A timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim, the Alliance theatre did a great job of producing this play. The lighting was perfect and the acting was spectacular. Everyone on stage and behind the stage definitely put on a show that I would love to see again. I was laughing, and taking back all at the same time. The thing I loved most about the play was the way the set was created. Although the stage was not very big they seem to make it work. There was not one moment were I was confused about where each scene took place. I also loved how at one moment one of the characters tripped up one of the stairs, and it was not rehearsed but somehow everyone played it off and made it part of the play. The only thing I can critic was the projection of some of the songs. I could not hear all of the words the actors were singing. I think the sound team could have done better with the mikes. Another thing that I did not like was the same actors playing different roles. I got a bit confused when I saw the actress that played Scrooge’s maid also play Mrs. Fizzwig. Also I did not like how I could see the actors coming on stage to move some of the props out of the way. I wish there had been a better way of doing that without making it so obvious that the props were in their way.

Each character had its own personality with a bit of a spin to it. I loved how although the actors played different characters, they gave each character that they played a certain something that made the character unique. I loved how the actor that played Ebenezer Scrooge stuck to the traditional essence of the character but he did not mimic him. The characters in the play were well thought out and every character had specific purpose. Even the people on the street had key roles because they would stop and say things that were important.
