4th Grade Bicycle Safety by miel
What are we learning today?
Goal 1:
Understanding of Bicycle Safety and Road Rules.
Goal 2: Proper Helmet Fitting and Safety.
Bikes, skateboards and scooters are so much fun but can also be dangerous so….
Do not forget to wear a Helmet in every ride
Properly put your helmet on never ride without one
You need to know the rules of the road and follow all traffic laws
Bicyclists must follow the traffic laws like any car driver.
Hand Signals These are like turn signals and brake lights for bikers. These signals help drivers to know what you will do next, so they don't run into you.
LEFT TURN
STOP
Always stop and remember to look both ways before crossing a street. If cars are coming, be patient and let cars go first.
Wear bright clothes and place reflective lights on the front, back and sides of your bike. It helps drivers to see you on the road . The safest time to ride your bike is during the daytime, try to avoid riding your bicycle at night.
Ask your parents to check your brakes, tire pressure & chain before you ride your bike.
If I am riding my bike on the street. Do I drive my bike against the traffic?
California law does not allow bikes to ride on sidewalks.
However, some towns DO allow riding on the sidewalks. Always check to see if there are signs posted that prohibits you to ride on the sidewalks.
Sidewalks are for pedestrians only.
Always remember…..
Bike riding is a lot of fun, but accidents happen. Every year, about 300,000 kids go to the emergency room because of bike injuries, and at least 10,000 kids have injuries that require to stay a few days in the hospital. Some of these injuries are so severe that some children die, from not wearing they safety helmet and hitting their head.
