Physical Security Policy

Merkow and Breithaupt (2006) state, “an often overlooked connection between physical systems (computer hardware) and logical systems (the software that runs on it) is that, in order to protect logical systems, the hardware running them must be physically secure” (p.165).

Some entry controls that we can implement are making sure all doors are locked, implementing a system of alarm systems that are watched twenty-four seven, we should implement a system that allows badge access to the building, plus having the badges pop a picture on the computer to show who just came in the building. We should also implement restricted security zones with high clearance, security guards and dogs. All these will implementations will help with the physical entry controls. This will make the company and the facility safer from the ongoing intruders.

The main office will have full and complete control over all these policy securities. This office will have the controls to issue certain badges to any of the fellow employees, and security guards.

These badges will be required to gain entry to both exterior and interior doors located on company premises. Some doors, such as those to offices containing sensitive material, may only be accessed by badges containing the proper coding in the system. Employees from outside departments may be limited in their access to these offices. “Every department head should receive, on a monthly basis, a listing of all persons in their area who currently have valid identification badges. Department heads must authorize the list of approved access or amend it accordingly” (Physical and Environmental Security, 2008).

The security of facilities is very important there must be safeguards to protect unwanted access as well as being able to detect unauthorized access and develop a control stop. To protect the company’s information and assets a physical security policy has to be developed...
