Shelter is the first thing that you should look for as soon when you land on shore. The island has trees, rocks, bamboo, thick grasses, and other natural supplies that you can use in building a suitable and strong shelter. We would look around the island for a good shelter spot; if we have found fresh water (along any one of the 3 rivers that flow from the higher elevations toward the ocean), we will put our shelter within easy walking distance against a rock wall of the dense bush or thick tree to make an instant shelter. Otherwise, we can create a lean-to shelter by leaning tall branches against a solid base and covering them with leafy branches to create a wall that will keep out some water, wind and sun. We would also take leaves and fronds from trees and line the inside of the structure in order to make a “floor” to rest on. If possible, we would build the shelter on or in view of the river so you can run out quickly to signal potential rescue or passing boats or planes. Shelter provides a home base, somewhere warm and shady to sleep, a place for storing resources, and to hide from the elements and wildlife that may surround us. We would try to keep the shelter above ground so bugs don't crawl on you.

The next step is to find water which is essential to staying alive (yes, more important than food). Seawater is not conducive for drinking as the salt and other chemicals will leave you dehydrated, so it is important that you find a freshwater source.  Any source of water is good. As long as you have it, you can purify/desalinate it. Since we have chlorine tablets, great! There are several methods to desalinate it.

If we’ve made a strong shelter and have found a good source of fresh water, the final step is finding food. Obviously, the ocean can be a good source but you can never be certain that every living creature will be good for consumption, so we would be careful about what to ingest. If fishing yields no results, we will look...
