Hardware/Software Components
In your own words, describe the following hardware/software components
Legacy systems | Any and all components of the existing IT of the company. The legacy system is what the company currently uses to function and could be outdated. |
Mainframe computers | The central location or storage of a companies IT. Information flows to and from this location for the entire company. |
Microprocessors | Is a chip that contains the processing power of a small computer. It allowed most computers to run by themselves. |
PCs | Personal Computer This is often referred to as a desktop computer. |
Network computers | Several PC's that join together by a common network server and client. |
World Wide Web and Internet | HTML software that allows information to be transmitted by computers across the globe. The internet is made up of all computer hardware that includes mainframes, servers and Personal Computers. |
Wired and wireless broadband technology | Both technologies allow bits of information to be transmitted from a router to a personal computer. With wired technologies this must involve either an Ethernet cable or a land line to transmit data. For wireless the router or hub transmits the information through a signal and that it is received by the personal computer. Smartphone's now transmit and receive wireless data. |
PC software | Software that is either the operating system of the computer or allows programs to be run on an operating system. This updates drivers for PC accessories as well. |
Networking software | Software that allows companies to be networked together. This can be used to store information and data as well as transmit and share. |
Computer security software
| Software that created walls of protection for personal computer users as well as large companies. This software protects the owner from viruses and hackers. |
