Qualcomm is a telecommunication equipment corporation that specializes in designing and manufacturing digital wireless telecommunications products and services. For the success of any business weather it is small or big, an organizational structure is essential for success. Implementing a structure for a company helps splitting the tasks of the organization into smaller and more specific sections where each section is responsible for its achievements through its expertise and professional. Qualcomm’s organizational structure can be divided into two major units, which are the business units, and the administrative units. The business units include sub-units that are separated based on product departmentalization, which is where the company gains its profit. The administrative units are divided into functional departmentalization where the company coordinates its daily business and activities. It includes departments such as human resources, marketing, finance and business/global development. Below is the organization’s chart that explains how each unit is divided and into what sub-units. It can be observed that Qualcomm’s organizational structure is built on achieving the highest profit possible based on how the work is divided and disrupted between teams in each unit. In evaluating the structure of the organization, Qualcomm can be considered to have a functional Structure that applies to its administrative units in which departmentalization is based on the purpose of each department and sub-unit. It also applies a divisional structure, which applies to its business units where each division's teams are responsible for performance and have strategic and operational authority while the top management acts as an external overseer to coordinate and control the various divisions.
