Fallacious Arguments

Jordan:

Argument 1: The people who attend community colleges are dumb, so I’m not going to one.

My Thoughts: I have heard this around a lot growing up. I do not know why people would create an argument like this. I’m guessing because it is only a two year college, but it is in fact not true that people who go to community college are dumb. My fiancé went to Vatterott College to study medical assisting. He graduated with honors (all A’s) and is not working as a CCMA. Everyone chooses their own education whether it be at a four year college or two year, it does not matter. A lot of people that go to community colleges want to get done faster and start their career ahead of time. There are also people that want a certain degree but only can get it at a certain college. For instance, if a person is interested in massage therapy, this type of degree can only be obtained at a community college because it requires hands on work.

Argument 2: A group of people that were hiking through the woods spotted big foot, so it must be real.

My Thoughts: I have heard similar arguments like this whether it would involve aliens, big foot, werewolf, etc. I think that the moment people see pictures and videos; they automatically believe that it could be real. The reality is that in this day and age, people can easily edit videos and pictures to make up a hoax. I’ve watched shows before that try to discover mysteries like big foot or the lockless monster. I want to believe it so bad, but in the back of my mind tells me not to because there is not real evidence to prove any of these are real.

Argument 3: I’ve heard that if you don’t eat carrots, you could go blind, therefore I will not eat them.
