In the following paragraph, I will summarize the major theories of biology. Evolution by natural selection is that a species will change or evolve over generations, and the mechanism is natural selection. Inheritance theory explains how traits are passed generation to generation by genes. Cell theory states that organisms contain cells that come for previously existing cells. Biological classification is a way of classifying a species by similarities and differences of other species. Biogenetics describes the energy that powers life and the chemical reactions in the cells. Homeostasis is an organism’s ability to maintain a stable internal condition to varying external conditions. Ecosystems are how organisms interact with each other and their environment.

For my paper I chose the theory of Ecosystems. In the news today, there are many examples of how ecosystems are changing, but I found the article Salt Marsh Carbon May Play Role in Slowing Climate Warming, to be a great example. Salt marshes consist mostly of grass, help protect the shorelines from storms, build up coastal elevations, produce new soil, and provide habitats for many different types of wildlife and sea creatures. However, with the warm climate created by global warming, polar ice is melting and causing the seas to rise. This helps the salt marshes to capture and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere rapidly, and possibly slow the climate change rate. As reported in the article, “…salt marshes [are the] best example of an ecosystem that actually depends on carbon accumulation to survive climate change…” which is essential to a plant’s productivity, and in supporting the many biological communities and environments surrounding them.
