2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The purpose of this document is to analyse the case study, identify the major problems experienced by the organisation, assess the leadership abilities, as well propose recommendations to implement a solution.

In order to do this, it was first necessary to identify the causes of these problems. The problems were categorised into structural, operational and behavioural strategies with most of the causes emanating from leadership behaviour.

To address these causes, the Project Office must follow a structured programme management approach that is driven by top management. Through a process of strategic transformation and change the Project Office would perform a detailed analysis (behavioural study, SWOT and gap analysis). Following this a vision, mission and balanced scorecard strategy map must be developed. Strategically prioritised organisational projects must be identified and implemented with the balanced scorecard programme management value chain being the main output.

Finally, implementing a total quality management process that facilitates on going performance measures would enable the organisation to achieve innovative learning and growth.

3. INTRODUCTION

In the modern economy, organisations need quickly respond to events in order to maintain their competitive edge with quality and service delivery to external and internal customer needs. One of the largest problems facing organisations today is the impact of leadership behaviour on the successful functioning of the organisation as is the case in the Trophy Project. The challenge of addressing these leadership problems to bring about strategic transformation and change required that a structured approach be followed in the case that would involve an analysis of the environment.

4. THEORETICAL FOUNDATION

4.1. Types of Organisations influencing programme and project management

There are three main types of organisational structures: functional, matrix (weak,...
