Question

Who is better at assembling parts to make a complete product (males or females).

Hypothesis

Boys are more likely to play video games and build things. As the amount of time a person plays with video games and builds things increases, the better skills they will have at assembling things. Therefore, boys will be better at assembling things.

Experimental Design

Variables

1. Dependent a) time required to complete the task

2. Independent a) height of counter

b) age of participants

c) mass of objects tested

d) number of participants

Materials

1. apparatus with 10 different “punch-out” shapes

2. level table

3. timer

4. (five) boys

5. (five) girls

Procedure

1. have the spherical apparatus displayed on the table with the “punch-out” shapes beside it.

2. Deposit the shapes through their corresponding hole found on the apparatus

3. Time how long it takes each boy to complete the assembly. Record the observations on a chart.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the girls

5. Ensure a safe work area is available for the experiment.
