Hoosier Burger (pg. 228, a-d)

a. Generally speaking, what alternative design strategies are available to Hoosier Burger?

While the Hoosier Burger case does not identify what types of alternative design strategies Bob and Thelma can choose from, we do know that Hoosier Burger currently has a manual inventory control system, therefore an alternative design strategy must include new hardware and software in order to meet its demands. Also, since Hoosier Burger is looking to incorporate a new delivery system so this must be taken into account too.

b. Is an enterprise resource planning system a viable option for Hoosier Burger? Why or why not?

I would not recommend an enterprise resource planning system for Hoosier Burger because for one this restaurant is a mom and pop type and an ERP may be too sophisticated and complicated for what they need. Also, cost is a concern because both Bob and Thelma would like to keep costs down, and ERP's can  be complex systems that may require them to hire consultants to not only help them implement it but also whenever problems arise. 

c. Modify figure 7-19 to incorporate the criteria mandated by the new delivery system. Which alternative should be chosen?

The alternative that should be chosen is B. According to the weighted factors, Alternative B rates the highest with a score of 369 compared to 367 for Alternative A and 358 for Alternative C, respectively. Alternative B rates middle of the road in both the requirements and constraint categories, however they have the overall highest rating satisfying most of Hoosier Burger's requirements with the exception of Customer Billing. While the costs to develop are higher in Alternative B than what Bob and Thelma are looking to spend, it appears that they may have an unrealistic limit on this constraint when you look at the costs of Alternatives A and C and compare them.
