The Heart and Soul of High School Sports

The causes and positive effects of high school sports have been long talked about. Sports and physical education can increasingly develop significant gender equality. I must point out that educational attainment is far from the only pro-social activity, attitude, or outcome associated with high school sports participation. I feel that human cognitive, like self consciousness and discipline can be promoted through sports. Certainly, sports involves decision making to go forward and the effort to learn how to get there must be applied. Scholars who participate in sports learn how to get there must be applied. Student’s who participate in sports learn how to observe themselves. They also learn about what motivates and energizes them. They are trained to focus mental and emotional energies by becoming physically fit. High school student’s are able to maintain a higher tolerance for frustration, obstacles and negative emotions. Student’s are often able to obtain better self-esteem, better finances and a good work ethic. In both at the public schools as well as in the private schools, exemplified is the qualities of good sportsmanship through clean, fair play, proper perspective to the role of athletics in the life of a student-athlete and the understanding that, win or lose, one is to respect his opponent and handle the contest’s final outcome in a classy manner.

Young athletes are blessed with many opportunities to find role models through their desire to play sports. For example, Michael Jordan has always maintained that his greatness as a b-ball player. His greatness was appointed through his willingness to work hard at his craft, as it did his talent. It was his discipline, focus and determination to be the best that he could be that got him to where he was. If it worked for him, it could certainly work for the rest of the sports guru’s.
