Esther

God had a special mission for Esther. If you read on in this book, you will learn how she obeyed God. Because she did, peach and safety were made possible for her people (Esth. 9:29, 30). I choose Esther among other women in the Bible, for she has shown great leadership and obeyed God’s command and even if she is crowned queen, she didn’t exercise her power without her king’s or husband’s knowledge or permission.

When King Ahasuerus was displeased by what his wife, Queen Vashti, has done to him (Esth. 1:12), King Ahasuerus made a decree which he proclaimed throughout all his empire , all wives will honor their husbands, both great and small (Esth. 1:20). King Ahasureus become ferocious of what happened, the king’s servants proposed that beautiful young virgins should be sought for the King. This is when a certain Jew by the name of Mordecai, who is the son of Jair, who is the son of Shimei, who is the son of Kish, a Benjamite. Mordecai is the uncle of Esther, whose parents died. From then on Mordecai was the one who took care of Esther and treated her as his own daughter. When the decree of the King was heard, several young women were interested and Esther was suggested to go to the king’s palace into the care of Hegai, the custodian of the women (Esth. 2:8). King Ahasuerus was pleased when he saw Esther and later on gave her the beauty preparations, allowances, maidservants and all the necessary needs for a queen. However, Mordecai firmly charged Esther not to tell the king her people or family. When all the preparations where done, on the tenth month, Esther was taken to the king’s royal palace and the king loved Esther more than all the other women he had. Esther has the grace and favor in the king’s eye and he later on set the royal crown upon her head and proclaimed her the queen instead of Vashti.
