In the 21st Century scientific management is still used widely in manufacturing industry, I.e car and computer manufacturing industry. It is also widely used in fast food restaurants and hospitals . It is hard to believe that the concept of scientific management was revolutionary just a hundred years ago.

Although the role of scientific management in the modern day is inevitable yet it has some important limitations that might limit the current working environment and not every element of the theory practical in the modern day. Hence this essay will elaborate the strengthens and weakness of scientific management and its practical implication in the twentieth century.

“Scientific management is a form of job design which stresses short, repetitive work cycles; detailed, prescribed task sequences; a separation of task conception from task execution; and motivation based on economic rewards”( Buchanan and Huczynski 2010). The definition of scientific management clearly states that Taylor believed in economic rewards and for that he developed the idea of piece rate. He believed workers should be paid according to the number of pieces they produce and if they exceed the the expectations they will be rewarded with a bonus. Taylor briefed his workers on job by saying “You do it my way, by my standards, at the speed I mandate and in doing so achieve a level of output I ordain, and I'll pay you handsomely for it, beyond anything you might have imagined. All you do is take orders, give up your way of doing the job for mine”( Kanigel, 1997, p214). Hence workers were given the opportunities to earn maximum income while company will benefit with high production. He divided the jobs of a general foreman into its constituent parts and each foreman would overlook the other.
