yIntroduction

We often hear this common phrase, “Motivation is the driving force behind human behavior”. What does it mean? What is motivation? How does it drive the path of human behavior? There are several interpretations of this term. Motivation is the “willingness to exert effort to achieve the organization’s goals, conditioned by this effort’s ability to satisfy individual needs” (Kamery, 2004). This willingness sets a foundation of motivation. In other words, motivation is a feature that wills a person to take action towards achieving desired goals and objectives. This theory of motivation is approached and used in many different forms varying among humans depending on their need of this feature in their respective personal or business environment.

Working at Fox Associates Inc., an advertising company in downtown, Illinois, has been a short but good work experience for me in the past. A small establishment running successfully over 35 years has assisted clients in developing strategically targeted plans across a broad spectrum of print and electronic media. The company is headquartered in the city with several other locations wide spread in all regions of the country such as California, Atlanta, New York, and Detroit etc. The company as an entity holds three different business units – consumer initiatives, business to business solutions and online & alternative media. Its overall mission is to help the client increase the sales coverage across a variety of markets. The offices in the west and east locations have a group of 5-6 people running the sales and advertising operations in the city and nearby suburbs. The corporate had several departments and teams handling different operations of the company. Among all, the finance department included accounts receivable associate, accounts payable associate and general account.
