Windows Task Manager Explained
Windows Task Manager Has 5 Tabs
-applications
-processes
-performance
-networking
-users
Applications Tab
Shows list of open applications and the status of them Provides the ability for user to:
-end processes
-switch to different applications
-run new tasks with the "new task" button
-view what applications are currently running
Processes Tab
-Shows list of current processes
-Helpful w/ locating programs which are draining system resources
-Additional columns can be added to top such as:
-GDI Objects
-Page Faults
-Page Fault Data
-Threads
-I/O reads and so on
Performance Tab
-Graphed view of system status also includes list of currently memory use age, kernel memory status, and other totaled information.
Networking Tab
-Shows current connections and the amount of bandwidth they are using
Users Tab
-Shows all users currently logged on the system. To improve Windows performance
or just before you shut down the system, you can log off a user.
Msconfig.exe
-Can open by typing Msconfig in command prompt Can also be run by clicking on: Start > Run Then, type msconfig
-Very helpful tool for a computer repair person gives you options of computer boot procedure gives you control of programs and services that start when computer starts up allows you to select different startup options such as
-"Normal Startup"
-"Diagnostic Startup"
-"Selective Startup"
Computer Management (Compmgmt.msc)
Consolidates several Windows
Administrative tools that you can use to manage the local PC or other computers on the
Network. Must be logged in as admin to make most changes in MMC
Microsoft Management Console (MMC)
-Used to build your own customized console windows. A console is a single window that contains one or more administrative tools such as Device Manager or Disk Management.
