Abstract

This change strategy will explain as a team how our leadership structure and styles pairs with the organization vision. As a participative leader, we need to implement a plan for leadership change. Participative style involves the leader including one or more employees in the decision making process (Lewin, 1939). The former CEO was a transformational leader, meaning he thought of the employees and the organization. Gene One is making some changes and the boards of directors think that some employees are not fit for certain roles within the organization. The directors haven’t realized that the organization was formed by the leadership who was forced to resign. Gene One is a biotech company that eradicated the disease in tomatoes and potatoes, by doing so has formed a $400 million dollars company.

Implementing Leadership Change at Gene One

Leading change is one of the most important and difficult leadership responsibilities. For some theorists, it is the essence of leadership and everything else is secondary (Yukl, 2006). Effective leadership is needed to revitalize an organization and facilitate adaptation to a changing environment (Yukl, 2006). When you pick a leader who has more of a participative leadership style it will be possible to change many aspects for Gene One. One thing in many areas of Gene One that they seem to have in common is conflict. A participative leader can discuss the areas that will need to be changed, design a plan, and help the team get started on a change plan while taking responsibility for certain areas. Conflict management training would help the change and equip the employees with tools to help them identify issues and how to use those issues to help the company and its team members become more effective.
