ADHD – A Brief ‘Successful’ Experience

ADHD stands for attention deficit–hyperactivity disorder. This is a type of disorder which can occur in adults and children as it is not limited to any age. As a result of this disorder, children become quite restless and find it extremely hard to focus on anything and act impulsively. It is only through medicines that any individual can try and reduce the effect of ADHD.

When I was growing up in Azerbaijan, my parents would push me to do better in school. However, I was never interested in the things that were taught in school. As a result, I would get very poor grades in school as I wouldn’t be able to stay focused on the work long enough to understand it for tests and exams.

In order to make sure that there was nothing wrong with me, and that I was simply acting like a normal teenager, my parents decided to take me to a psychologist where I was diagnosed with ADHD. From this day on, my life would become much better.

When I started taking Ritalin tablets, I didn’t feel any change. However, after the first week, I could feel a little different. Suddenly, instead of getting distracted easily, I was beginning to stay focused on what the teacher was explaining in class for a longer period of time Slowly but surely, I felt that I was beginning to get better in my studies and in my life in general.

Over time, Ritalin helped me become more focused on everything I did. For example, from failing my tests, I was able to start getting B’s and A’s. Therefore, from being an average student in my class, I had become one of the smartest kids in my class.

One of the best moments of my school life when I was taking Ritalin was when my school held an inter-class quiz competition and I represented my class. Due to taking Ritalin, I was able to memorize a 1000 questions and when the quiz came around, my new knowledge helped my teammate and I answer 95% of the questions correctly, allowing us to easily beat the other teams in...
