When it comes to creating a work environment, a true leader must take into consideration several factors with one of them being collaboration. Collaboration involves having a common purpose and goal within the work environment. Another fundamental to consider when creating a work environment is that trust must be developed between the management and the working side of any corporation or company. If the management does not develop trust, there will not be a thriving work environment. Communication is also a must. An employee must have clear duties and expectations within their work place. How can one collaborate if communication is tainted and work assignments are vague? One answer: A collaborative work environment is not possible with those conditions. Overall, in order to have a collaborative work environment, an employer must abide by including, but not limited to the four cornerstones of a relationship: Communication, Trust, Boundaries, and Respect.

One of the fundamentals to creating a work environment is having a common goal and purpose within the work place. According to opm.gov, if management does not have a clear goal in mind, a team cannot be established. That is why it is also important to figure out why the team exists in the first place. What are they there to do? Where does the team hope to wind up someday within the company? If they ask themselves these questions, then effective goals can be set and they can work towards a bright future within their work environment. It is like the concept of one body; all members of the team must play a part. There may be some that work in IT (information technology), some that work at a desk as a secretary; others may be running around the floor area such as that within a hospital to save the lives of others.
