As requested I have researched several business intelligence systems to find out which system would be the best for the future success of our company. I will be discussing how the business intelligence software will help our business. I will talk about the type of information and analysis capabilities the systems provide. I will also discuss the hardware and system software required to run the application. Finally I will provide you with a list of vendors who offer this system and my evaluation of their products.

Business intelligence identifies cost cutting ideas along with new business opportunities. It also provides the tools a company needs to translate the data into information they can use. The systems that I researched were IBM, Microsoft, SAP and Oracle. First I found out from the IBM website that the IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence offers a complete range of business intelligence capabilities on a single service-oriented architecture also referred to as SOA. You will be able to use reports, analysis, dashboards and scorecards to review business performance along with analyzing trends and measuring results. It also allows users to view this information using other devices such as a BlackBerry, search engine, MS Office application or Web browser. You can also receive customized training to fit your needs and there is also opportunity to get a certification which will give you a competitive edge in the marketplace. This system is installed by automatically downloading from the website (IBM).

The system requirements for the server are:

• Memory – 10MB additional 5MB for each additional language

• Hard disk drive – 100MB free space

• Server software – Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or equivalent

• Web Server – IBM Http Server, Apache or equivalent

The system requirement for end user includes:

• 500 MHz processor
