Thomas Edison (Edison’s Quotes, 1997) once said, “Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only thing he cannot afford to lose.” In order not to lose any time, we have to manage our time effectively. So, what is meant by time management? In a journal (Brigitte, Wendelien, Rutte and Roe, 2007), time management is defined as the degree to which individuals perceive their use of time to be structured and purposive by Bond and Feather. I have at least 4 subjects each semester throughout the foundation course, therefore, time management is very important to me because it helps me to arrange sufficient time for each subject.

First of all, setting not a goal but a SMART goal is a technique to manage my time because when I know what I want to achieve, I can then figure out what exactly need to be done and in what order. Without a SMART goal, I will fritter my time away on a confusion of conflicting priorities. In the book Successful Time Management (Forsyth, 2010, pp.21-22) SMART goal should be specific, measurable, attainable, result-oriented and time-oriented. My goal is to get CGPA of at least 3.0 and above in the final exam of foundation course. I can know that I have achieved the goal if all my subjects get an A. It is achievable and realistic because based on my previous results during high school were good. This goal is important to me because if I achieved this goal, indirectly it shows that I had mastered the basic IT skills which are very useful for me when I study degree in forensic computing.
