Legal Separation: A Better Option

Did you know that due to the legalization of divorce in the United States, their rate of separation rised from 10% in the 1986 to 90% in 2011. (Howard, 2011) This fact just goes to show that when divorce is allowed, there is less value given to the Sacrament of Matrimony, or more commonly known as marriage. The law staes that, divorce is the instanc eof legally dissolving a marriage while annulment is the judicial declaring that a marriage is invalid. On the other hand, Webster dfines marriage as the union of a person to another as husband and wife in a cesensual and contactual relationship recognized by the law. Moreover, according to the Bible, marriage is a sacred life-time commitment. Matthew 19:6 says’ “so they are no longer two but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” That is why the idea of divorce should not be tolerated as well. However, there is a better option which is legal separation.

First of all, when one takes on the issue of divorce, it is important to remember Malachi 2:16 “’I hate divorce’, says the Lord, God of Israel.” Many may say that Rleigion should not be considered when creating alaw. Furthermore, not everyone in the Philippines is a Christian. On the contrary, the Philippines is a Catholic country, therefore its views and beliefs should fall under the beliefs of a christian. Pro-divorce people usually say that the usual reason for divorce is abuse and adulter. That is why the 1 Corinthians 7: 10 was written. “To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband.And a husband must not divorce his wife.” This was because God saw that His people were stuborn.
