Keystone XL Pipeline

Keystone XL Pipeline system is miles of above the ground pipeline that will be transporting synthetic crude oil (diluted bitumen “dilbit”)from Athabasca, Alberta oil sands region of Canada to Cushing, Oklahoma the oil distribution hub, United States. There are several refineries in the U.S., like refineries in Illinois, Cushing, Oklahoma, and other connected refineries along the Gulf of Texas. There are two proposed pipelines, one is Keystone XL Pipeline and the second is Gulf Coast of Texas. This completion will allow American crude to enter at Baker, Montana, and Cushing, Oklahoma.

The Keystone Pipeline has several lawsuits against them from environmentalist, members of the United States congress, and from other oil refineries in the United States. In January of 2012, President Obama rejected the protest against the impact that the transport of crude would have on Nebraska’s environmentally sensitive Sands Hills region. March 2012, President Obama endorsed the building of the southern half pipeline at Cushing, Oklahoma. (Song, 2013)

The original Keystone Pipeline is approximately 3,461 kilometers long, and will deliver Canadian Crude Oil to the United States market.
