Big Crew Change

At Bengal Consulting, we view the Big Crew Change as an opportunity to maintain the impressive successes achieved by Coburn and Associates Energy Company (“CEC”). With industry experts anticipating that as many as 1.5% of Petro-Technical Professionals will be leaving the Exploration and Production industry annually for the foreseeable future, it is imperative that we develop a plan to ensure that we are able to place qualified candidates in these positions in order to maintain Coburn’s current and future projections of oil and gas production.

We have identified three ways to source qualified workers that will become replacements for these positions in the following ways: provide current and future employees with on–the-job-training and continuing education, poach workers from other companies, and hire college graduates with energy specific degrees.

On-the-Job Training: When a derrick hand or roughneck shows up to the rig on his first day of work, he generally has no previous experience, and relies solely upon his peers and supervisors to provide him with direction. In fact, most new employees have no idea what they should be doing the first day and often, it can take weeks for them to get up to speed. It simply takes time for people to adjust to new roles and to learn new skills. With the help of their peers, supervisors and on-the-job-training, transitions into new positions can take less time, and cause fewer problems. This can also apply to people changing positions within the same company. To replace retiring executives and supervisors, CEC’s other employees must be trained while these key employees are still working not only for the ease of knowledge transfer, but also to ensure a smooth transition of power.
