Ariana Huffington

Ariana Huffington is most known for her role as creator and co-founder of the online blog/newspaper called “The Huffington Post.” Famous in certain inner circles before The Huffington Post, Huffington has written multiple books, with ten best-sellers, and has won numerous awards throughout the years. At age 62, Ariana Huffington has been named one of the most influential women in social media, as well as Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.

On July 15, 1950, Ariana Huffington was born Ariadne Anna Stassinopoulos in Athens, Greece. Her mother was a bit eccentric and her father was a newspaper journalist well-known in the area. At nine years old, Huffington showed a penchant for taking control of her life, as she convinced her mother to divorce her father, as her father had multiple affairs with other women. At age 16, Huffington attended Cambridge University, going on to become president of The Cambridge Union Society, one of three women to do so. With a master’s in economics, Huffington moved to London to begin writing a few of those previously mentioned best-sellers.

At age 22, Huffington wrote the first of ten career bestsellers, “The Female Woman,” which looked into the beginning of the feminist movement. Before moving to the U.S., Huffington wrote articles for British publications such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, The Daily Mail, and The Spectator. Moving to Los Angeles put Ariana Huffington on the map with those of a higher social class. Many people claimed that she was only “being power hungry and desperate for attention,” (AskMen, 2013), but Huffington portrayed herself as charming and intelligent.
