1) Do a SWOT analysis of YouTube in India.

Strengths: Has all the content that is available on regular YouTube, but is more customized to trend with what is popular in India. India has a huge population that is very technologically savvy, so YouTube fits well with their culture.

Weaknesses: It doesn’t include all Indian languages, which may pose a problem with communication. User content is what drives the creativeness of YouTube; it isn’t controlled by the company.

Opportunities: Increase the amount of users on the site. Add all Indian languages as an option. Better capture India’s creative and unique entertainment for its people and let them share with each other what is trending in India.

Threats: law suits like the local music label that had problems with copyright infringement. Future law suits dealing with copyright. Other social networking sites, as well as internet giants like Yahoo.

2) Asses YouTube’s growth through alliances and partnerships.

YouTube was acquired by Google for $1.6 billion, and I think this was their best move they could have made. Google is one of the best companies to work for, and has connections with almost every person with a computer. Partnering with various other companies can be good for spreading their name and getting more and more people on YouTube. As each year goes on though, YouTube will be a more common and more used website. Generations will grow up being exposed to it their whole life, and everyone will know where to find videos online.

3) Assess the company’s localizing strategy. Do you recommend that YouTube “localize when entering other countries?

By localizing their website for certain cultures and countries YouTube allows them to be more widespread and more easily used.
