Theory of multiple intelligences

In 1983 Howard Gardner proposed a very different method to define intelligences. In his book: "Frames of Mind - The theory of multiple intelligences" he differentiates intelligence instead of seeing it as one dominant ability. The first three intelligences which he mentions are: linguistic in which words and language are involved, logical-mathematical dealing with logic and numbers, and musical which approaches this field from sound and rhythm.

Linguistic intelligence is the bread and butter of teachers, poets, and lawyers. It can be discovered both through a written or spoken way. It involves the interpretation and explanation of different texts, the understanding between communication and meaning. One, whose linguistic intelligence is better, enjoys reading, writing speeches, stories. They can compose much more sophisticatedly, love word games or even remember quotes of famous intellectuals.

Logical-mathematical intelligence is crucial in professions which require logical thinking, detecting patterns, scientific reasoning and deduction for example engineering, and informatics. Performing mathematical calculations, seeing the connections between cause and effect is not a problem to someone intelligent in this field. Engineers have to be precise and good at analyzing how machines work, make plans on constructions and measure while doing them. Their preferred learning style is with the help of numbers and logic.

Musical intelligence covers one's musical abilities: awareness, appreciation and use of sounds which surround us. These people understand the relationship between sound and feeling, being able to project one's inner world in form of music. They have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch or perfect pitch, and are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music. They might be able to learn better with the help of music, more specifically rhythm.
