The purpose of this comparison is to help college students in their computer purchasing decision. Today, the average student can make good use of a reliable computer; this report is designed to help in that search. From many brands I will discuss and compare Mac computers with PC's. This report will compare laptop computers on the basis of the following: (1) features, (2) performance in hardware tests, and (3) price.

Introduction:

A Mac is a PC. Macs are basically PC's. PC stands for Personal Computer, and a Mac is a personal computer in its own right. So why do we differ between Mac and PC's? Simply, because Macs are thoroughly branded and different from other PC's that people refer to them as Macs.

Macs and PC's pretty much operate on the same basic hardware both have processors, motherboards, graphics card, optical drive, RAM memory, hard drive, fan, etc. However, each has a different and unique software (Operating System).

Operating Systems and Program Types:

Mac computers operate on the OS X operating system. You can run Windows or Linux on a Mac. However, OS X is the standard operating system for Macs. Legally, OS X is only supposed to be used on Mac computers. Apple has made sure of this. Macs OS X uses unique programs and applications. For example, DMG is an extension used by Mac computers, rather than EXE extension used by windows based PC's.

There is really no genius behind PCs. There are several companies that manufacture branded PCs: Dell, HP, IBM, Toshiba, Sony, etc. However, Bill Gates chose to concentrate just on software by creating Microsoft. He built windows, the most popular operating system in the history of computers. But, he chose to sell Windows to any computer manufacturer that wanted it to operate their own PCs. That is why Dell, HP, Sony, etc, are all Windows based PCs. on the other hand if you wanted to operate on OS X operating system u have to have a Mac.
