Heredity will show up one day and will make one wonder where it came from, but actually it was there all along. Hormones have to do with the building, relationship, and actualization of our lives. Hormones can be influenced by us ourselves. Actually the hormones are what dictate change, our moods, puberty, depression, and anxiety. The different levels of hormones can be dictated by our diet, exercise, medication, and even the mood we are in.
“The endocrine glands release chemical substances that are called hormones which will be carried to the bloodstream.” Hormones also organize the nervous system as well as blood tissues. The endocrine glands and the way hormones effect human behavior are somewhat different in males and females.
The glands of the endocrine system that secrete hormones are as follows:
* Pineal gland: This gland is located near the center of the brain and has to do with the activity of the day. It secretes the hormone melatonin with the responsibility of the sleep wake cycle
* Pituitary glands: placed under the brain and produces the largest amount of different hormones with the responsibility of growth, contractions during child birth, and the production of milk
Parathyroid: responsibility is excitability by regulating the calcium and phosphate levels (Morris &Maisio, 2010)
* Thyroid gland: regulates the metabolic rate by secreting thyroxin
* Pancreas: here the blood sugar is regulated by the production of insulin and glucagon
* Adrenal gland: The outer layer is called the adrenal cortex and the inner layer is called the adrenal medulla which helps the body handle stress and arousal when threatened
* Ovaries: secretes estrogen that handles the female reproductive system
* Testes: secretes the growth of the reproductive system in a male and the sexual behavior in males
