Welcome! It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the position of Accounting Manager at ABC Corporation. Your start date will be Monday, April 15, 2013 at 8:00 a.m.

The accounting department is comprised of individuals with incredible qualification. They all have different backgrounds and values that make them a unique, independently thinking group. We have worked to avoid any conflicts that communication barriers can bring about in a diverse group such as ours.

I would like to go over some of the procedure, that have proved effective, to ensure a smooth transition for you and the continuity of the good working environment that the department has enjoyed over the years.

Due to the different cultures in the team, there are some verbal barriers that we have learned not to bypass. For example: Carlos and John both speak Spanish however, Carlos is from Mexico and John is from Puerto Rico so they both speak different dialects. We have instructed them that when adding a new vehicle to the balance sheet and running financials, they should use the same word and avoid the mistake they made two years ago, when we purchased a new truck and it was entered as a bus due to the differences in dialects between the two. As you are aware, bypassing, occurs when some word is used that mean different things to different people. The approach I came up with was to implement the use of specific language, keeping the team from misunderstanding each other. The team has a monthly meeting to discuss certain issues and receive clarification on accounts that may have problems .This helps make sure everyone is on the same page .We also have an internal Webster that is constantly updated .The team can access the site concerning our department and any company information.
