Nutritional discoveries in food from the earliest days of history have had a positive effect on our health and well-being. Early humans ate naturally growing plants, fruits and vegetables. They also ate meat they obtained from hunting animals. In todays modern world humans have evolved from growing and cultivating their own food to consuming genetically modified ingredients created in fast food.

There are many reasons why fast food has become so popular in todays modern world. One reason is time; People today are always in a rush and look for convenience. Time has changed families’ lives where now they’re two working parents in a family, buying take out food is a popular and accepted form of dinner for today’s family. Second reason is money and the cost of Fast food. Fast food today is affordable for everyone, which makes it more attainable for even unemployed people. Sometimes buying your own produce and meat to cook your meal is often more costly than buying fast food. A third cause on why fast food is so popular could be attributed to advertising and having less time with family.

These changes have had serious effects on people such as obesity. People who frequently eat fast food gain more weight and are more likely to develop insulin resistance causing diabetes. Fast foods are generally high in salt, fat, and refined carbohydrates, and low in vitamins and minerals. Portion control is more difficult with fast food because the portions are much larger than need be. Contributing to the obesity epidemic in the United States.

A second effect Fast food has had on families is not being able to eat together.
