​​​​Anton in Show Business

​On Sunday, February 27, 2011 I saw the show Anton in Show Business at the IPFW Williams Theatre. A short summary of the play was there were three young women of three different lifestyles working together in San Antonio Texas on their separate parts of a play by the famous Anton Chekhov; who is Russian. The play goes into depth of all the situations good and bad that these women had to go through and all they did to get the parts. The play even went as far as to actually getting the audience involved by adding a character who acts as a patron in the audience constantly blurting out questions and her own personal thoughts causing a brief pause in just about every scene. I would consider the play a realistic comedy for the simple fact that they represented the life of real actors, business men, foreign directors, and patrons such as you and I, but also used them in a way where each scene was not to serious keeping the audience involved and wanting to follow through with the next scene.

​Throughout the play, the actress who caught my attention the most was the character of Elizabeth Cartwright from Texas who tried out for the role of Masha and Aline in the portrayed play. She was a third grade teacher and one whom was very into Christ with everything she did. She was the youngest of the three actresses and was also the most naive at times. She was easily pleased and settled for just about anything when she took her trip to L.A. to audition for the part. Although she seemed as a follower in some scenes and even a push over, overall you can just tell that she had a good heart and was just the average country talking girl from Texas.

​The way Elizabeth entered the pay as a tourist almost taking pictures and lightly walking in her heels all over the stage coming off as a vey sociable being caught my attention right away and I mainly focused on her throughout every scene for the simple fact that even when she had no lines to say, there was...
