Starting with the title of the movie, Sucker Punch, this film doesn’t adhere to the conventional Hollywood production. Even though it can be characterized as an action movie, due to the amazing and over the top special effects, this film is better characterized as a collage of Psychological thriller, drama, and even comedy; it digs deeply into the subconscious by masterfully using an array of unusual characters along with extravagant costumes, mythical creatures and creative sets.

From the beginning, the plot is set in motion with a traumatic experience inflected on the main character, Baby Doll, who suffers the loss of her mother and brutal murder of her younger sister at the hands of her evil step-father. She finds herself confined to a psychiatric ward run by a mentally disturbed character ,Blue Jones, who throughout the movie displays traits that are in complete opposition to the main character’s creating the inevitable and eternal struggle between Good and Evil by picking Baby Doll as the representative for “good” and Blue Jones as the representative of “Evil”, one of the most refreshing angles of this film is that we are immersed in the realization that they are shades of gray, characters such as Dr. Vera Gorski spends the mayority of the film portrayed as an accomplice of Jones, and therefore the notion of her being evil is suggested up to the end, when her true intention is just to protect the girls whom have fallen victims of Jones.

At the beginning it is hard to comprehend the continuous back and forth between what’s perceived as reality and the imaginary world created by Baby Doll to help her deal with her reality, her main focus is to escape from being locked up against her will. Baby Doll realizes that she is not the only one who has been subjected to the same atrocities going on in this place and a plan is set in motion....
