Five Guys Burgers and Fries Assignment #1

Five Guys originated in a single location in Arlington, VA within Washington DC, Metropolitan in 1986. In this paper I will determine how Five Guys are set apart from other fast food chains and analyze the original values for the startup company and how it remains strong today. I will then enumerate 5 factors that contributed Five Guys success in a short time and what effect, if any, external markets had on these factors. And last but not least, assess how ethical and social practices are part of the Five Guys’ culture and provide examples to support my choices.

Five Guys’ unparalleled uniqueness from other fast food chain starts from a simple few simple ideas in their mission statement, values, and their commitment to service. They roll side by side with the largest fast food chains and still have not folded into their stereotypes. Jerry Murrel, founder of Five Guys, says, “We are in the business of selling burgers, and doing that better than anyone else” (Five Guys). He philosophizes that burgers are his business and his business is quality burgers at its best. While experiencing Five Guys you get the feel that you are important, they are committed to the population they serve and to the values that they have created. Also, building a relationship not only with customers but with employees also it creates an ambiance that is great social growth. You are treated with respect and shown that you as a person matters not what you are spending.

All produce are fresh, stored in cooler rather than freezers, and is always neatly organized. The fries are made by real potatoes and also cooked to the order, and there is a choice of seasoned or no seasoned fries. Patties are hand molded, fresh, and cooked to the order.
