Food Lion was founded in 1957 as Food Town in Salisbury, North Carolina, the company’s success is based on contribution customer’s products at great prices along with having clean, conveniently located stores with in the areas that they are located. Food Lion LLC is a member of Brussels-based Delhaize Group. Food Lion one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States, operating 1,300 supermarkets, which goes under many different names such as Bloom, Bottom Dollar, Harvey’s and Reid's in 11 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states as well as their International locations which are the United States, Belgium, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and Indonesia (Delhaize Group SA, 2011).

Delhaize Corporation (Food Lion) offers nationally and regionally advertised brand name products, Great prices, quality assurance, and great prices with technological advances and operating efficiencies. This company offers sound working conditions, competitive wages and one of the best compensation and associate profit-sharing packages in the retail industry (Delhaize Group SA, 2011).
