Air Pollution in China

The air pollution in China is becoming a chronic problem. This comes as a result of China’s economic growth. The main sources of air pollution in China are factory emissions and vehicle exhausts. The air pollution problem in China greatly contributes to serious health problems among the people, as well as global warming. To better understand the air pollution problem, you need to understand the history of China, the seriousness of the problem, cause of the problem, and possible solutions to the problem.

China is marginally smaller in size than the US with a total area of 9,596,961 sq. km. It is the fourth largest country in the world. Even though China is smaller than the US in size, it has the highest population in the world. China is located in Eastern Asia, bordering the East China Sea, Korea Bay, Yellow Sea, and South China Sea, between North Korea and Vietnam. China is mostly mountains and high plateaus. The west section of China is mostly desert, and the east is plains, deltas, and hills (CIA, 2012).

China’s estimated population growth rate from 2012 is 0.481%, ranked 152nd in the world. As estimated from 2011, the GDP real growth rate is ranked 9th in the world, and the GDP per capita is ranked 122nd in the world. The climate of China is tremendously diverse. The country’s natural resources include coal, iron ore, petroleum, natural gas, mercury, tin, lead, zinc, aluminum, uranium, and hydropower (CIA, 2012).

China is considered a Communist state. The administrative divisions include 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, and 4 municipalities. The civil law in China is predisposed by Soviet and continental European civil law systems. The legislature holds the power to interpret statutes (CIA, 2012).
