Self-Management Behavioral Contract

Kristen Lacroce

Goal: Organize my day to day and increase my exercise habits

I have always been an athlete ever since that I’ve been able to walk and run. I made an effort to keep myself in shape and make exercise part of my daily routine. I became pregnant in the fall of 2009 and I found myself bed ridden with severe morning sickness. I completely dropped my exercise routine and went from working out daily to not working out at all. Ever since then I have had the most difficult time sticking with an exercise routine that works with my schedule and one that I am motivated to keep up with. I love the way that I feel about myself physically and mentally when I exercise regularly and stay in shape. However, I have found it to be quite difficult to fit a day to day exercise routine into my schedule. I am at home with my two year old daughter fulltime, which leaves me very little time for myself. In the evening after my daughter is in bed, I try to accomplish various household tasks and I do the majority of my homework, therefore, my only option would be to exercise in the morning. I have never been a morning person even though I know that I would accomplish so much more if I only woke up a couple hours earlier than I do now. Even knowing this does not stop me from hitting the snooze button several times every morning. The more that I think about how I plan to achieve the goal of improving my exercise habits, the clearer it becomes that there are various different behaviors that I need to adjust in order to reach my target goal. It has become apparent that all of our actions affect each other in some way. For example, my sleeping habits, eating habits, time management skills, and my mental state all affect each other in one way or another which ultimately affect my exercise habits. If they are not all in sync with each other on some level I will not be able to achieve my goal.
