Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you to complain about the experience and customer satisfaction experienced by myself and my girlfriend after flying with American Airlines from London to Costa Rica (San Jose) on the 17th March and returning on the 1st April 2013.
The issues that occurred are documented below. If I had known about these experiences I would certainly not have paid almost £1,400 for the flights and instead I would have booked with a different carrier. This was my first experience of American Airlines and was not a pleasant one.
1 – Flight AA101 York (JFK) – 17th March
During this flight there was a problem with the hydraulics, which caused an emergency landing, greeted by police, fire and ambulance staff. This was nerve racking, especially as I understand a hydraulic fault can potentially have serious consequences. This was an unpleasant start to the holiday, although we understood that issues do occur and decided to forget about it.
Another problem on this flight was that the entertainment system for my seat was broken. Luckily there were two additional seats to which we moved; otherwise it would have been 7 hours without any in-flight entertainment.
2 - Flight AA614 from Costa Rica to New York (JFK) – 1st April
Shortly after taking off we had to return to San Jose airport due to an electrical fault. We were again greeted by emergency vehicles and asked to remain on the plane for an hour whilst an engineer assessed the problem. Eventually it was identified that it could not be fixed and we were led to a gate waiting room. We were worried from then on as we had experienced two emergency landings in three American Airlines flights!
We were told that we would re-board the same plane at 12 noon. Passengers then looked at the American Airlines website which stated the flight was re-scheduled to leave at 5pm (9 hour delay).
