Even I major in the system engineering, my favorite subject has been English since I was young. It might sound so strange, because to be an engineer, mathematics, and science are important subjects. However, for me, English was my favorite for a long time. I haven’t lived in foreign countries until I stayed in the Philippines last year. I just loved reading, and writing in English. Even after I got into the university, I didn’t stop studying English.

While I was in the air force, I studied English so hard with a newspaper named Korea Times. My English ability was not quite bad before joining the military. However, by reading English newspapers all day for 2 years, I started to know what to study, and the way to go. Thanks to my long, long life in the base, I was given a chance to love studying English. I had confidence in reading, and writing in English, However, I soon fell into a deep depression. I knew that I had only little capacity in speaking, and listening. I planned to have an English phone call service, and took a conversation test through telephone to check my level. When a woman asked me something, I automatically said, ‘I’m sorry?’, because I couldn’t understand what she said to me. I was so shocked, and finished the call after a few questions, and answers. That was the beginning. How can I do like that? I studied so hard, and what’s the reason? I was so confused about what I’d done. I was losing confidence, and started to cast a doubt about everything.

But things are getting better all the time. One very big chance was heading toward me.
