November 15, 2010, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released its found charges against Alton Restaurant. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found Alton Restaurant guilty to subjecting a teenage hostess and two females to sexual harassment.

Alton Restaurant is a company under Tony’s Lounge, Inc., and Italia Bakehouse and Bistro, LLC. The charges were against Tony’s Lounge vice president, Michael Ventimiglia for repeated and unwanted sexual comments, unwanted touching and the use of sexually explicit comments. The vice president, Michael Ventimiglia also committed these same acts against two of the restaurant cooks.

In this case the role of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was to investigate the accusations against Michael Ventimiglia. These sexual harassment acts violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has the responsibility and the goal to give a piece of mind and the fair treatment to all employees regardless of sex, race or ethnicity.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission made a first attempt to settle the accusations out of court. After Tony’s Lounge, Inc., and Italia Bakehouse and Bistro, LLC and Tony’s Lounge vice president, Michael Ventimiglia declined and admitted to no wrong doing. Only after the failure of pre-litigation did they file a law suit against them. According to the EEOC website, $75,000 will be paid to the sexual harassment victims.
